Memories 2004 magazine

There's a new magazine out called Memories 2004 in which people who died this year are remembered.
 
   Anyway, Art James is featured. But the writer got it essentially wrong by implying that he was the regular host of Concentration. As most of you know, he was the announcer and sometimes substitute host of the original NBC version. His stint as Who, What or Where Game host was ignored, but there's a photo of him and the Say When! set.

Not uncommon.  The AP reports after his death headline him as the announcer of Concentration and Family Feud Challenge, and don't mention most of the shows he hosted, including The Who, What or Where Game.

A lot of the articles quote his second wife (he was divorced twice), who is apparently estranged from his three children (all with his first wife).

Yeah, Concentration was NBC's longest-running show, but he was only there for about 1/5 of the run...

There probably won't be a mention of Art James(or even Gene Wood) in that EW issue, sadly, but we'll see.

Just the kind of journalism I'd expect from a nation who thinks Cheez Whiz comes out of an aerosol can, that "The Simpsons" is the first prime-time animated comedy since "The Flintstones", that the opening line in the theme of the old "Bugs Bunny Show" was "Overture, Curtain, Lights!" (it was BURN THE Lights), and that Bob Denver's TV career consisted of no more than one or two series.

Newsflash:  People, regardless of nation, make stupid guesses as a whole.  In other news: fire burns, some stocks closed higher while others fell, and Michael Moore ate another cheesburger.  Film at 11, breaking news as it happens.  

Not to make light of your feelings, but so what?  Bob Denver's probably so burnt out that even he thinks his TV career consisted of no more than one or two series.

Johnson, You really ought to bring it back down to reality and face facts:  Art James, talented man that he was, performed in an underrespected genre.  And that's not even taking into account that no one in a target demographic would have even heard of him to begin with, much less cared a tinker's cuss about hearing he died.  It's a travesty as we see it, but life sucks like that:  Not everyone gets the recognition they deserve.

C'mon, what was the last thing he was in?  Sure, there was that bit part in Mallrats, but between that and Catchphrase, that's a pretty big damn gap.  A big enough gap to slip out of the public conciousness without even so much as a spot on The Surreal Life.

No, EW's right on this one...the theme lyrics tell of backstage excitement on opening night, and the first line details the sequence of events when a stage show begins (band hits the overture, curtain rises, and the lights go up). If the lights burn out, that's a whole other detail...LOL

I insist it was "Burn The lights".  If you ever get a chance to hear it again, listen to it closely.  There is no mistaking "Burn The..." for "Curtain".  It was quoted as "Burn The..." elsewhere as well.

Getting back on topic, CarbonCpy was a bit out of line in trying to make me feel like I had no business saying what I did about the masses being generally uninformed about Art James' most prominent game show hosting jobs.  This has been going on around here too much for me to bear in the last few weeks.  I don't appreciate being made to feel inferior to most everyone else every time I try to get a word or two in edgewise about something I feel I'm reasonably qualified to discuss.  This is just barely two or three notches above what I went through in Junior High or my first job.  Lay off, please.
